CORRIGIN

As I drove towards the town of Corrigin I was greeted by this sign. I thought some people boast about anything. But I soon found out that the town of Corrigin has the World Record for the number of dogs in the back of ute assembled in a queue. The record of 699 was first achieved by Corrigin in October 1998 when they beaten the previous record held by a town in Victoria. The queue was 7 kms long. But the other town fought back and Corrigin had to again rise to the occasion. In 2002 they achieved a new record of 1527. This event raised $60,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

But....wait, there is more! Leaving the other end of town there is a dog cemetery. No, the two are not related, no dogs were harmed during the making of the record....as they say. This full scale cemetery is for dogs only. It began when Paddy Wright buried his dog Strike.  Alan Henderson later buried his dog alongside, built a tombstone and began caring for the graves. Others soon followed and thus the dog cemetery was created. The graves range from the elaborate to the simple.
